Weekend of Workshops to Celebrate the opening of Clay³

Clay People will sponsor a full weekend of workshops free!

Sat. March 3, 1- 5:00 David Zahn, Creative Methods of Sculpting Figures and Portraits in Clay. This workshop will consist of three parts

Part 1 WORKING WITH AN ARMATURE

Armature for sculptures that are to be fired is not the same as an armature used to create models. Ways to use paper and wood as a base to build a ceramic sculpture will be shown.

Part 2 PORTRAIT SCULPTURE

Using a simple wood and paper armature the process of creating a portrait in clay will be shown. The technical and artistic aspects of rendering facial proportions and features will be demonstrated.

Part 3 THE CREATIVE PROCESS, Q, & A, MY WORK, ETC.

As an artist who has been making work for many years I am still always impressed with the insights, and creative thoughts of others. This section of the workshop will be directed by those in the room. I will demonstrate techniques I use.

Sun. March 4, 9-1:00 Rimas VisGirda Color and Line. The demonstration will focus on color decoration and imagery with wax-resist and wax-inlay techniques for a black outline; a number of line-making techniques will be demonstrated. Ceramic color will include underglazes, overglazes and lusters. Discussion will cover applications to tiles, vessels, and three dimensional forms. The workshop will include demonstrations and discussion of low fire, high fire, and multi-fire processes.
 
Sun. March 4, 2-4:00 Joanne MaNamara.Mosaic Garden Stone Make a mosaic garden stone using your own design. We will use tiles, broken china, stones, and glass. You will set your pieces and later grout. This is a hands-on project. $15 material fee.
