Curious about ClaySpace?
What is the ClaySpace story?
ClaySpace is a ceramic studio like no other.
Once upon a time a group of people got together to talk about their dreams, these were clay people, people whose art was clay. Everyone had ideas. We talked for a long time about how great it would be to have our own place, our own studio. After much dreaming and discussion we said to ourselves, why can’t we do this? And so we start meeting after meeting defining and refining our goals.
ClaySpace ended up as essentially having 4 major things going on:
- Resident Artist memberships
- Classes
- Clay People Club
- Gallery 107
So let’s get into more detail. ClaySpace is a non profit ceramic arts studio that has all the equipment necessary to create ceramic artworks. We have gas and electric kilns, a slab roller, potter’s wheels, extruders, a spray booth, glaze chemicals, glaze room, and a really nice facility with natural light that overlooks the DuPage River.
1. The Resident Artist membership allows the artist full access to the studio and equipment 24/7. The RA is a responsible member helping with studio chores and the running of the business.
2. The classes are great. We have all kinds and some special classes too like Figure Sculpture, and Art on a Plate in the summertime. We teach all levels of adults and kids. We even do events like team building, workshops, scouts, and birthdays. Our class schedule is posted on the website.
3. The Clay People is a club open to the community and dedicated to continuing education and social networking. Clay People bring in guest artists for workshops and demos, has parties, and does charity work and sales.
4. Gallery 107 is our on site Gallery. We feature ceramic artists and sell the work of RAs and Clay People. We will soon have an online gallery.
It seems we have met most of our goals. We are working on new challenges and dreams. We are a creative group and have helped each other to learn and grow.
Please take some time to view our website. Clay3 is coming up in October.
We are always available to answer your questions. Come join us.
